The Crap I Overslept It's Friday Mish Mash Mess of Aloha VGNO Fragments

June 26, 2009

What do ya do when you oversleep? Yowza. I'm a bad girl. Friday...I'm gonna try to make the best of you.

Friday Fragments?

I once was trying out a new hair stylist and she kept blowing on the back of my neck. With her mouth. It was to clear the hair off but.......See ya, freak!

*****

Have you ever had days when you just don't feel like seeing anyone out and about? Yesterday I was going to the grocery store and I thought I saw my friend's car so I pulled into my spot and waited. Sure enough, she got out of her car and headed into the store.

Do you know that I started my car back up and drove 10 miles out of my way to go to another grocery store?

Don't judge. You haven't had a conversation with her and it can last for 30 minutes without my having said a word. I just couldn't do it.

*****

I had a dream the other night that I was hosting a foreign exchange family. I served them all dinner and they took offense to the butter knives that were on the table. Win some, lose some.

**********************************************

Aloha Friday is for those lazy Fridays and apparently that's what I'm having so here's this week's question:

What was YOUR worst haircut/hairstyling experience?

*************************************************

And don't forget about Ann Again and Again's famous VGNO tonight. It's a virtual pajama party! Since I got up so late, I know I'll be there meeting old friends and making new ones!

Happy Friday!

OMG I will have to post a pic of this once I'm moved into my new home and unpacked but when I was 8 I wanted a perm so bad. Just wavy nothing fancy. My great aunt who permed hair(old ladies) mainly gave me a perm. It ended being just like that old lady. It was horrible I cried and cried and cried.

This isn't really the worst experience, but... I once had a male hairdresser who for some really weird reason was shocked... SHOCKED!!!... to find out I wasn't gay. Um, yeah. Aren't they supposed to be good at figuring that kind of thing? I actually thought it was funny.
Happy Monday!

Hey there!

Worst hair experience was when I was getting a perm and the girl doing it was also in charge of the phones and the front desk. Enough said. That's why I pay the bucks now.

Happy early VGNO!!!!!!!

LOL I've dodged people out and about before...many times. Sometimes it is just best that way.

What'd you cook your exchange students? Curious...

Annnd worst haircut experience. Third grade, hands down. My mom was cutting our hair, all four of her daughters...and of course I was last. It was 10pm, we were leaving for SC the next day in the afternoon and it had to be done or I would be miserable in the heat.

I kept nodding off, unbeknownst to her. So ended up having a very lopsided haircut. Needless to say, we stopped at a great clips before our flight out. Then my hair was the shortest it had ever been my whole childhood life. Fun times :)

One of these days I'm going to HAVE to stay up for VGNO!! When/where does it start??

Also, I always wondered....where did you get the name "blueviolet"?? It's so unusual so there MUST be a story there....

I can't seem to get it together today - ugh!

Eww on the blowing thing! I don't have a bad haircut story because I rarely get a haircut (i'm bad I know). I have totally done the store avoidance thing though! Happy Friday!

I still remember this vividly - there are 2 times actually - both involving curly perms! When I was in 3rd or 4th grade, I rode the bus home with a friend to her farm house and my mom had asked her mom (who was a beautician) to give me a perm. I HATED it and can remember getting up the next morning and having to ride the bus back to school and I was in tears - it was horrible and I was so self-conscious! The other time was when I was pregnant with our 1st and I had recently cut my long hair and it was quite short and for some crazy reason I decided to get a perm - I looked like a very fat little orphan Annie. Had it done on a Friday - cried all wk-end and went back on Monday and had them put a straightener in my hair to take it all out and then my hair stuck flat to my head for 2 months - Yikes!! Thanks hubby for being kind to me during that awful time ~ LOL!!! (The sad part was, I actually had thick wavy fairly nice hair, just didn't appreciate it back then - oh well!!)

worst hair cutting experience is when the lady "knicked" my head, and I bled buckets.... I thought she had just pulled my hair a little extra hard, and didn't know I had an open wound and she didn't tell me either.... Apparently head injuries (no matter how small) bleed a lot ..and well, when I got to my car...I discovered that my hair on one side was covered in blood. I marched myself back in, and demanded she return $$$--because not telling someone that you've taken a chunk out of their scalp is just RUDE. She started crying.... I am usually not that mean. But hey.

PS. Thank you for your kind words to me.... about my dad. It always helps a little to have support from someone who's been there...

Kristin at My Art and the Mom in Me said...

ugh... I remember it clearly. Fifth grade..I got a perm. It was not cute. Let's just leave it at that.

;)

Storm said...

I used to get perms to put some wave in my perfectly straight hair. I got a perm once that burned my scalp I lost clumps of hair.

Me said...

A new hairstylist would be in order if one blew on my neck. Most just use the blow dryer! Freak is a good word!! Knock on wood..I haven't had any horrible hair disasters...yet! I'm sure my day will come!

Amy said...

When I was little I had long hair. I was ready for a new short cut. Then man made huge chunks in my hair and I look so bad. We had to go and get it fixed. I am so scared to this day to get my hair cut.

Jenni Jiggety said...

I have had several unfortunate home hair coloring incidents that resulted in very expensive trips to the salon to achieve a more HUMAN hair color-look. Ugh.

And I totally would have driven to the other grocery store, too. I am not exactly a people person. :-X

Kari said...

I was about 14, my friend was giving me a home perm. I had those funky little rollers all over my head. And....two teenage neighbor boys that we had crushes on came to my door and saw me. I was mortified, LOL!

Happy Weekend!

Worse hair? I'd say before my wedding shower, because I got a perm and my perms would start out tight! and I wanted it to growout some for the wedding, 3months later it finally was where I wanted it!

LZ said...

Oh boy. I have 2. One, my shoulder length bob went to a pixie cut at the hands of a crazed, apparently deaf, stylist. This was 6 months before my wedding. The second, my longer than shoulder length hair went to a similar pixie cut as I was 8 months pregnant. Not an easy to do pixie cut either...one that required LOTS of styling. I go months without a haircut now, out of fear...

When I became a blond. My hair is naturally dark brown, and going to such an extreme difference made me look sick !

Definitely the perm I felt I should get before starting 9th grade. Worst. Mistake. Ever. Well, probably not but it was pretty bad. Never had another perm...

Stesha said...

That is kinda freaky. Especially if her breath was kickin.

My husband says he doesn't understand why people want to be friends with me, because I avoid their phone calls.

I'll look at the caller id and push decline. In this day in age there is no reason to talk on the phone.

Text or email me people!

Hugs and Mocha,
Stesha

I had a pretty bad perm when I was about 13. Since then I've never done anything drastic like a perm. I actually cut my own hair. I've only been to a beutician twice, in my wild and crazy college days.

2good2bee said...

When I got it cut so short and permed. What was I thinking... Me and short hair do not mix...

Kitten said...

I have naturally curly hair, and I've had MANY bad haircuts because there are MANY hairdressers who don't understand what curly hair is like. They cut the hair as if it were naturally STRAIGHT, and that's always disasterous.

As for driving 10 miles to the next grocery store, I've done that too! And then I bump into someone ELSE that I know and face the same situation at the store that I've driven out of my way to get to. It's a no-win situation!

Jillene said...

I have had too many hair disaster to pick just one UGH!!

I hear ya on the driving 10 mile to another store or checking the caller ID and letting it go to the answering maching. Been there and done that--many times!!

Firefly@www.firefly-shop.org said...

LOL I would so go in the other store :) and hair color not my friend that is if I do it alone at home hahahhaha!

My worst hair mistake was getting bangs once. I have a cowlick on my hairline that makes me have to part my hair to the side. The bangs parted themselves to the side and a little piece of them stayed on the other side. Not cute.

I totally know what you mean about not wanting to see people. I graduated high school with 600 kids and most of them never left town so it's almost guaranteed to see at least one person I know every time I leave my house. Awful!

Alicia said...

Oh my gosh...LOL about the blowing on the neck!!!!! Sooooo creepy!!!!!

My worst hair experience??? When I was 10 years old and got the "Dorothy Hamil" haircut!!! It was sooo not Dorothy!! I looked more like Mark Hamil! LOL!

Kori said...

I have some friends like that, too. I avoid them when they call, too, and then call back when I only have three minutes to talk because I am walking out the door or it is time to get the boy in bed. It takes skliz, I tell ya.

Anissa said...

I hate when people talk and talk!

I think mine would be a perm -- my grandma did -- NOT GOOD!

Thank God my hair is straight and pretty now. LOL

Heather said...

my first one was when my mom cut it when i was about 7--we both cried! lol, now, but i remember it

pam said...

I think the worst would be senior prom, I went to go get my hair done, and it was so bad. I had to go home an wash it and try to get it looking ok. It was not the way I wanted to start the night.

Evansmom said...

I have definitely hidden from people. One day I was trapped on the phone with someone and my son noticed my distress and went and rang the doorbell. I finally interupted her complaining by telling her someibe was at the door.

Chocolate Covered Daydreams said...

My sister and I were in 4th grade and this bald hairdresser did our hair. He was so distracted with catching up on gossip that he didn't realize how long he was leaving the perm on my sister's hair. Icing on the cake was when he pulled out some bbq ribs and warmed them up on the curling iron heater and then proceeded to lick his fingers and try to cut her hair at the same time. He butched her hair really bad and then told her, "That's okay, baby, it'll grow back."

Heather of the EO said...

My bad haircut was very recent. I still look nuts. The stylist cut off WAAAAY too much, but only in one section of my hair. So it appears as if I have a headband under the back side of my hair when I don't. Cute...

And NO BLOWING ON MY NECK while cutting my hair...EW.

Justine said...

Heeheeheee... I can't believe you drove 10 minutes out of your way to avoid your "friend". but I know what you mean. There are just some days that you don't want to have to think up anything witty or even halfway intelligent to say.
Do you know I can't even remember my last bad hair cut? I guess that's good, right? I did have a stylist a couple years ago that did the blowing on the neck thing, but he was totally cute (and straight) so I kinda enjoyed it. LOL

Okay, you've gotta have Suz start her own blog. It drives me nuts now not knowing who's writing the current post!

Hi! It's so fun to see you again! I thought you were done with blogging for good and I missed you! I changed my url to remove our family name from everything.

So, your question, once when I was about 16 the hair dresser kept talking about how important it was to be nice and have a good rapport with your client and how that was more important than being really good at doing hair. But I don't care how much I like you as long as you do a good job on my hair I'll put up with you and probably even come back... of course, that excludes blowing on my neck or other creepy things!

Yaya said...

Wait, blowing with her mouth? On your neck? At first I thought you meant with a hair dryer and I didn't get it, but that is just bizarre.

Heatherlyn said...

Oh, and I'm following you now so I can get all your fabulous posts on my blog roll!

Joy said...

Worst haircut was when I was 9 months pregnant with my first child, 18 years ago. She apparently didn't listen, and apparently I wasn't paying close enough attention, because she sheared me within an inch of my life!

Rebecca Jo said...

That's hilarious you drove out of your way to avoid her... I can see myself doing that...

Worse hair cut experience... went to a "Cosmo Modeling" place to have my hair done as a teen... My hair has always been pretty long - Mid back... they washed it, trimmed it - & I refused a cut... they made so much fun of me & told me I needed to get rid of that mess & long hair was "OUT" (OK Heidi Klum!!!) - As a teen, my feelings were so hurt... Stupid hair dressers going to pick on a 10th grade girl???

shortmama said...

I can so relate to avoiding someone at the store. I never go to our local little store in my small town because I dont want to have to stop every 2 seconds to talk to people. And even in the grocery store sometimes I duck into an aisle to avoid people that I just cant handle talking to that day!

Erin said...

I made the mistake of letting my Aunt perm my hair...umm yeah, Never again...she not only made my bangs look like a poodles but she fried my forehead! NICE!

I have done things to avoid seeing people too, it's when they figured it out that I was tongue tied!

Ah ha ha! I do so love you. We do the same; wait it out till the acquaintance is out of sight to continue safely on. :) Only sometimes do I do that. Some days, you just don't want to deal with it.

I've never had a bad hair day. I've always looked fantastic with never a hair out of place. Except the errant clumps on the floor.

My worst hair experience was when I went to the local Aveda school (thought I was in good hands!) not long before my wedding - they practically dyed my hair purple, instead of chestnut brown. Fun stuff. Happy VGNO!

My worst hair experience was when I was in HS and was talked into getting a perm. I was a kid how was I suppose to know that a person with naturally curly hair did not need a perm. My Mom cried for days.

Have a great VGNO

My very worst experience... a man of unknown ethnicity, 19 years ago, started whacking on my locks. Only here and there, though. And then he spread goo in it and stuck it up all over. Then he said that a woman of my age shouldn't wear her hair to look so old, or something awful like that. I was speechless. Embarrassed. I paid and left with my hideous 'do'.

Another customer followed me out in shock. She had overheard his very rude comment. Thought I should go and get my money back. She couldn't believe it. I was still reeling so much, that the extra embarrassment of this lady talking with me didn't phase me more than I already was.

End of story...I called the place. They wanted me to come in. Gave me a free cut and style. Told me the man was gone, that he had not done well there.

I couldn't imagine... oh yes i could!

Gena said...

Apparently, having red hair is difficult for a hairdresser to deal with so I've had several "CRAP" hairdo's.

I'm with you: some days, I just don't want to be bothered.

Jaime said...

when i was a kid, i went through a "i don't want to brush my hair phase." so when i went to get my hair cut, they couldn't even get a brush through it. they had to chop my hair off. it was bad.

Vicki said...

When I my hair was below my waist and I went to get my hair trimmed and the lady picked up the scissors and cut a big swipe just under my left ear. There was nothing to do but cut the rest that short!
Not a good experience at all!!!!

Worse haircut? That's easy, the 1989 poodle perm mixed with a little dorothy hammel.

Tami said...

LOL, I do that too... I drive out of my way so I don't have to talk to anyone. heh heh. I sometimes DON'T answer my phone when caller ID comes up. I'll drive 3 freeways to go to a grocery store and sit an hour in traffic to MAKE sure I don't see anyone I know. That's SAD isn't it?

Lin said...

My hairstylist that I've had for years tells me that she thinks I have lice. She digs around a bit (I'm mortified, but not itching or anything) and keeps cutting anyway. I went home and bleached everything--sheets, blankets, towels etc. only to find out it was a hairspray that I was using--it was coagulated in little droplets in my hair. I had to wash it a couple time to get it all out. I was p*ssed! I did call her boss, and I did continue to go back to her, but she wasn't too thrilled about that at the time. I still go to her--like 10 years later.

Kristen said...

She blew on your neck? That is so wrong. I say your next stylist should be a hunky guy...let him blow all he wants!

I can understand, I know a few people like that.

My worst cut was when I was in about 5th grade my dad decided to give me my hair cut. He thought it was cool to shape the bottom in a V...it was horrible and I had to recut it.

Wait, you mean she BLEW your neck, WITH HER MOUTH???! yUCK! I thought you meant with the blowdryer! That's gross. Foreign exhhange family? From what country? I don't blame you for driving 10 miles out of your way. i would have done the same thing!

You made me laugh this morning, funny lady...especially about your friend in the store--I've been there!

I once had a hideous haircut in 8th grade, a day or so before the big 8th grade dance. It was so awful that I cried and cried and actually stayed home. This was the late 80s, so you can imagine some of those styles.

I have had so many bad haircut experiences I can't even count anymore. Thankfully I have finally found a stylist I love.

Margo said...

I am so thrilled to re find you! I could really do a top ten list for this one... The first that jumped in mind was when this hollywood hairdresser in the 80s decided to "cut into my curl", which for me, really amounted to "cutting into my haphazard, sporadic waves and frizz". I looked like my daughter's American Girl doll after she got a hold of a pair of scissors. No rhyme or reason. Then got it cut about 1" all over to recover.

My worst haircut experience has to be when I went short thinking that it would be easier to style. Well, it wasn't. Every time I had to style my hair was a nightmare until it grew back.

my worst hair experience would have to be the summer b/w freshman and sophomore year of high school. I had my hair dyed black. My hair is dark brown, but the black looked blue in certain light. It was bad, really bad!
