Aloha Friday - Shoes or No Shoes

August 28, 2009

Aloha Fridays: where you ask a simple question, give a simple answer, link it up at An Island Life, and do a little visiting and a lot of relaxing. Join in!

My question of the day is: Do you wear shoes in your house or do you take them off when you come inside?

I always take them off when I come home, but I do wear them at different times throughout the day while I'm at home.

I don't wear shoes in the house! I love shoes and love to buy shoes but prefer to be barefoot! Go figure!

I wear pink fuzzy slippers in the daytime and keep Wellington's on the back porch for yardwork.
Everyone else is *required* to take their shoes off at the door.

sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. I don't require anyone to take their shoes off...seems kinda rude to me and if they have foot odor, I'd rather they kept their shoes on! :-)

I never go without shoes period..NEVER inside or out..beach in water...shoes.. I have been know to try to wear my croc in the pool only to discover that it is too much of a work out..they want to float and I have to work to keep my feet down! I have tender tootsies ;-)

With 4 dogs in my house - I dont think our shoes matter... so yes, we wear shoes in our house... but my husband & I are very aware to take our shoes off at other's homes...

I don't wear shoes in my house... they come off as soon as I come in the door. Even in winter. And my kids have picked up this habit, but the hubs wears his shoes all the time!

Nancy@ifevolutionworks.com said...

I'm a barefoot girl, myself. So is my family for the most part. We all pretty much park our shoes at the door.

Stefany said...

It depends what kind of shoes really.

Flip flops and slip-ons, I take off. If I have tennis shoes on, I will keep them on unless they are dirty.

Pseudonymous High School Teacher said...

I live in Hawaii. No one wears their shoes in the house over here.

Diane said...

i personally hate wearing shoes at all!

Mighty M said...

Sometimes I leave my shoes on, but usually they are off. Bare feet in the summer, socks in the fall and winter. ;-)

No shoes in the house, it dirties the carpet!

Michelle said...

Sometimes I take them off, but something I leave them on. :)

I never wear shoes in the house! In fact I hate to wear shoes, period. Which isn't good because I have diabetic neuropathy and can't feel my feet so I've had broken toes, cuts to numerous to mention. By the way, I grabbed your button.

mommablogsalot said...

I take them off at home but I'll keep them on at someone else's home unless they ask us to take them off.

shopannies said...

shoes come off as soon as we come in

ModernMom said...

Always take them off!

Mango Girl said...

Being a certified shoe-whore, I prefer to be barefoot and let the shoes collect dust. I really am meant to live on an island ya know.

Shelly said...

I take them off when I come in unless I'm carrying groceries or something.

{Kiki} said...

It's a rule for all members of the family and friends to remove shoes when in the house. I always have to remind everyone what might be on the bottom of their shoes and that they are tracking "it" throughout my house. Then the rest of us who are in bare feet are walking in "it", or my kid is playing on "it." After visiting our home the last three years you think everyone would be used to it by now and I wouldn't have to tell them. Aloha and take care.

I really try to remember to take them off. My husband is anal about it. And we just had the carpet cleaned.

We have a no shoes policy in our home. It was hard to get used to but my hubs always grew up that way. I remember him freaking out in high school when he found my lying on bed doing homework once with my shoes on haha. After a while its second nature though.

shraddha/april@theselfloveproject said...

we remove our outside shoes...

we have comfy slippers for inside the home...

seperate ones to go to the backyard...

Shoes off! Everyone please take your shoes off in my house! Ha! Ha!

And, blueviolet, I recall seeing your gorgeous face on your blog......you're beautiful! Have a great week-end......

wkiskizt said...

I usually take mine off. We have carpet in most of our house, but I really don't like bare feet on hardwood or tile floors - there always seems to be dust or crumbs or something on the floor no matter how recently it's been swept...

My husband takes his off right inside the doorway. He lived in Korea for a few years and just got used to it.

Kendahl, Stepmom Extraordinaire said...

I don't like shoes, period! But I hate being barefoot. So most of the time, you'll find me in socks wandering the house, or the yard, or the grocery store...

Jo said...

It completely depends on where I'm going next, etc. It's certainly not a rule on needing to take them off - but in general I HATE shoes.

Hope you've been having a good week. I've been busy busy with my boys.

buffalodick said...

We don't make anyone, including ourselves take their shoes off when coming into our home.. I consider it rude to be asked take my shoes off at the door- In Japan, maybe... my house, no!

Drahdrah said...

Depends how easily the shoes come off. For example.. Crocs come off at the door. Tennis shoes usually stay on till I'm settled inside.

Andrea McMann said...

I have always taken my shoes off immediately as soon as I come home. We're a no-shoes family I guess.

Thanks for visiting my blog. :)

No shoes when I'm at home. Sometimes, I indulge in a good slipper...if it's cool enough. :)
I love my slippers.

Susie said...

I wear house shoes in the house and street shoes in the street. Hence the names:-)

yonca said...

I usually take them off unless I'm carrying something. But I don't require anyone to take theirs off when they come to my house.

Abby said...

I take them off when I come in. I try to make my husband do the same but he isn't good about it. He usually leaves his somwhere that I will trip on them. Our carpet does not look good.

Brandi said...

Both....I would love it if we didn't wear shoes at all in our house, but the door we come in at is in our living room, and so there isnt really a place to put them. Our mud room is at the front of the house (which is silly, since the garage is in the back).

Nina said...

When I only had carpet they always came off. Now that I have wood floors everywhere I don't like being with out shoes. Strange, huh!

Flying Giggles and Lollipops said...

I do not have a no shoes rule, but we do tend to take them off and run barefoot.

Thanks for stopping by!

go without
spend hours trying to find them when i want to leave again

They're off! If the world (the mall, Target, restaurants, and public bathrooms) were clean, I'd walk barefoot everywhere...

Rochelle said...

I don't have a rule about it at my house, but I happen to generally take my shoes off once in the door if/when I can. Sometimes they fall off me at the recliner ;) and other times I leave them on as it helps the Fibro pain a bit if I'm on my feet doing housework. Hubby leaves his on because his feet get cold very easily. I have to remind him kindly to take them off when it's raining or snowing and his shoes are all gooky...that's the only time it drives me bonkers to have shoes on in the house. If I'm barefoot and he leaves his on, tracking around the house with laminate flooring in much of it, you can imagine that leaves me to stepping in puddles inside the house. Grrrrrrrrrr.

shortmama said...

I am the same as you. I take them off when I get home but then will slip them on sometimes during the day

JC said...

I don't wear shoes .. if I can help it.

My house is a cat, dog house so you can wear shoes or whatever ... floors got ruined a while ago.

My sil actually has a basket with white socks ... that she expects people to put on when they come in her house. I don't go there anymore ... first time she did it I walked right past them ...

Thom said...

Nope...we leave all our shoes outside. It's a Hawaiian tradition not to wear shoes inside :)

I wear flip-flops.

Stephanie Faris said...

I have hardwood floors and no matter how often I sweep, dust and stuff from outside seems to accumulate on the floor. I can't STAND to have stuff on my feet, so I always either have socks or shoes on.

Firefly@www.firefly-shop.org said...

No shoes in the house here ever! Hate dragging all the dirt from the outside in the house!

Amy said...

The shoes always come off. While I am driving or just sitting in the car. That is way I love flip flops. Winter is not fun because I have to wear those lovely snow boots and I can't always pull those off too fast.

Tori said...

My shoes stay on if I plan on leaving again that day, unless I decide to relax on the couch. I can't stand shoes on the couch or bed. If the shoes are off then I'm either in bare feet, slippers, or (if the floors were swept)socks.

jewelryandgiftsbyrebecca said...

I'm a bare foot kinda gal. I do put something on my feet when my legs are tired but not too often.

Hypnotransformations said...

I hate wearing shoes! I take them off at work when I'm doing paperwork. I take them off in the car and usually walk barefooted from the car to the house. I throw them in a huge pile of shoes by the front door =)

Jean Stockdale said...

I hardly ever go without shoes due to an unfortunate incident years ago when I stepped outside barefoot and stepped on a frog!!! From that moment on, I can hardly stand to go barefoot inside or out. One can never be too careful about where frogs might be lurking!

Thanks for stopping by and leaving a note. I love that Children should be heard, seen and beleived. I will second that!

Can you tell me how you have developed such a "talkative" following on your blog? How long did it take? Is there something special that you did to "engage" your audience? Thanks in advance for sharing. BLessings.

We take our shoes off when we come in. I prefer not to, but your perspective changes when you spend two years saving for new carpet!

Justine said...

I never wear shoes when I'm in the house and rarely wear them around the yard either. That could possibly be why my feet are like hardened and cracked leather.

I had a really great comment, but it was really risque, so I thought better of it! You know it is bad when I censor myself! I take my shoes off in the house!

No shoes in the house unless there's some 'emergency' like you have to pee really bad...lol.

Even when I lived with my parents we didn't wear them in the house.

Becca said...

I don't wear shoes inside, but only because of comfort. I don't care about protecting the floors or anything.

I'm usually barefoot in the house, but that is not a rule.

pam said...

I take my shoes off at the door, most of the time. If I am just running in and getting something (and then leave) I don't take them off. My kids are pretty good about taking off their shoes (as I look at them and see they both have shoes on)
LOL

I never wear shoes in the house but only because I prefer to be barefoot. My husband, on the other hand, will sometimes fall asleep at night with his shoes on!

It is important to be shoeless!

Helene said...

I prefer to have no shoes on when inside my home. I've been trying hard to get the kids to remember to take theirs off when they walk in the front door but they often forget! Our living room carpet was so horribly stained b/c of that. But now we've got wood floors in so it's been a lot cleaner!

Pricilla said...

Do they make shoes for goats?

Kara said...

I usually do NOT wear shoes in the house...although I have a couple pair of comfy slippers I often put on.

Michele said...

i kick my shoes off immediately. If I could take my clothes off I would. Unfortunately, the cooking would burn sensitive parts. If you know what I mean.

Heliotropism said...

I always take them off right when I get in the door. I don't like wearing shoes, but I also don't like feeling things on my feet (i.e., crumbs or dirt). My floors are spotless b/c of this! LOL!

Vickie said...

I kicked them off as soon as I get home, but I have to put my slippers on right away or my feet hurt. Apparently extra body weight is not good for them:( I have plantar fascititis(?) thingy with the bottom of me heals.

Of course my doctor wishes I would wear them all the time.

JamericanSpice said...

I require that all shoes be taken off at the door or the least in the kitchen/laundry room before you go anywhere else. Thankfully the kids are learning and the dh kinda gets it. I hate shoes on my carpet! And I cannot stand shoes in my house. All I can think of is where the bottom of those shoes have been!

The kids couldn't leave the shoes alone, so I bought them house shoes to wear inside only. They love this. I'm happy.

The Wife O Riley said...

I barely keep clothes on in the house, let alone shoes!

Jaime said...

i take them off when i get into the house - mostly because i am desperate to get out of my heels.

Everydaywoman said...

Always wear one of my assortment of comfy, flip-flops around the hour and yard, like croc thongs, etc. I love something squishy under my feet, but nothing confining!

Mother Mayhem said...

I prefer barefooting myself. I'm supposed to wear shoes because of the whole diabetic neuropathy issue, but it's just downright uncomfortable. :o\

Jenni Jiggety said...

This time of year, I am always barefoot. But in the winter I wear fuzzy socks around the house!

conversationswithmoms said...

I am either barefoot or I wear flip flops around the house when I'm cleaning. This way my feet don't get wet or dirty.

Rita T. said...

I almost always wear slippers in the house. Our house is cold most of the time...

Heatherlyn said...

We always take our shoes off. And then we take them off at other people's homes too. But I like having my feet covered. We need to invest in some good slippers. :)

Sera said...

I'd say 95% of the time I'm barefoot in my house. It's more comfy that way.

Alexis AKA MOM said...

Take them off :) Sometimes slippers go on.

Margo said...

I mostly go barefoot in the house, but I keep flip flops nearby because I like wearing shoes in my kitchen on the tile floor. Go figure.

Vicki said...

We take our shoes off when we come through the door.

Jessie Kaitlin said...

I take them off right away, Unless I'm going down to the basement.

Julia said...

I know you were waiting just for my comment!! ;)

But I take off the flip flops before coming in side. And my kids.... well If I can get shoes on them at all it is a miracle. After putting on their foot wear, it is usually minutes before they shed them. I pretty much give up on some days. Barefoot rules my home.

Pamela M. Kramer said...

I have to wear shoes. I have flat feet. :(

Brian Miller said...

shoes off...more for comfort than cleanliness...the toes must be set free!

AudreyO said...

My shoes come off the second I walk through the door.

Michaela said...

No shoes in the house for us... I was raised to take them off at the door. My husband was raised the same way... he thought it was an Asian thing (his mom is Korean), but found out when he met me that that wasn't the case. The only place in the house that we wear shoes is in the basement.
