Did you know that 50% of Americans stuff a turkey on Thanksgiving? I can still remember watching my mom in fascination as she stuffed and trussed the turkey. It seemed to take forever, and she used a sewing needle and thread that kept getting all tangled.
Now there is a tool to help make it so much easier! From fusionbrands, the new foodloop lace is a silicone lacing tool which is safe for use in the oven, stovetop, and freezer.
I was lucky enough to be asked to review the foodloop lace recently, and I decided to practice on a chicken, so I would be ready to take on the big bird by the time Thanksgiving rolls around.
The foodloop lace was really easy to use. The needle pierced the skin easily, and I pulled the foodloop lace through just like I would have with string.
After I had made a couple of stitches, my fingers got a little slippery from the olive oil that I had put on the chicken, and it was a little hard to pull the needle through. That’s my fault. I would recommend seasoning the outside of the bird after sewing the cavity shut to prevent that from happening.
I tucked the needle in place, finished seasoning the chicken, and then just popped it in the oven. The foodloop lace is safe up to 675 degrees Fahrenheit, by the way. (Not safe for microwave use)
When the chicken was through roasting, I let it sit for about 10 minutes, and then just pulled the foodloop lace right out. Easy peasy.
It’s dishwasher safe too, so just pop it in its little mesh bag and into the dishwasher it goes.
In a nutshell: I loved it! It’s super easy to use, didn’t stick to the meat like string does, and it’s 22″ in length, so it’s more than capable of being used on whatever you’re stuffing: turkey, chicken, duck, or fish. Plus, it’s reusable!! (I know my sewing was silly, but I had extra lace so I was swoopin’ and loopin’ for fun.)
