Jacquard Hoop Painting – Review and Giveaway

This sunflower is a finished example of what can be made with the Jacquard Hoop Painting Fun Bag I just reviewed!

There are 4 different techniques that you can try using the craft kit.

The traditional method of silk painting is to use a resist to draw lines and shapes on the silk. The resist will act as a barrier between the colors.

Another method is to allow the colors to blend freely in a watercolor style of painting. Pre-wetting the silk enhances this effect.

Also included are some some salt granules of various sizes. After the painting is done, sprinkle salts onto the wet paint and a beautiful starburst design appears.

And finally, since the paint is photo-sensitive, lay some objects with fun shapes onto the just painted silk. Place it in a sunny place until it dries, and the objects will leave their shadowed impressions behind.

I used a combination of these techniques with my designs. I used two of the hoops and I’m saving the last one for my daughter to use when she comes home for Christmas.

I had so much fun making these! I love making crafty things, and I really liked that the kits offered so many different ways of using the contents. You can see from my own two hoops that I did two very different things with them, both of them equally child-like.

Each kit comes with 3 100% Silk 9.5” hoops, 2 paintbrushes, 3 Dye-Na-Flow colors, Permanent Metallic Resist, Silk Salt and tips and techniques information.

Dye-Na-Flow colors are non-toxic and can be cleaned up with water. The Hoop Painting Fun Bag is CPSIA compliant, MSRP $13.99. Recommended for ages 4 and up with adult supervision.

And yes, those last two photos are mine! Proof positive that a child can handle it.
