The Marriage First Aid Kit - Giveaway

November 19, 2009

The Marriage First Aid Kit by Bryce Kaye, Ph.D.

In contrast with many books written about marriage problems, The Marriage First Aid Kit was not designed with the naive assumption that most relationship problems are merely the result of poor communication. Marriage problems are often the result of conflicting egos or roles, shamed needs or desires, and other dynamics that often have much to do with the personalities of the two partners.

The Marriage First Aid Kit contains descriptions and explanations for the most common syndromes causing marriage problems. For each problem syndrome, solutions are suggested. Coupled with the suggested solutions are reasons given for why they work and improve an intimate relationship. The real key to understanding marriage problems is to understand the emotions that underlie them. (from the publisher)

My Review:
No marriage is immune to problems and having been married for 24 years, I've experienced plenty of ups and downs myself. This book takes a very different approach to marriage problems, and I'm finding it to be extremely valuable.

I like the way the book contains exercises, scenarios, and tools to put everything into use, and it's written in a vernacular style, which makes it a pleasure to read.

I haven't finished it yet because there's a lot to digest here, and I'm taking my time because it's proving to be incredibly helpful.

Buy It: The Marriage First Aid Kit is currently available at Amazon for $13.64.

This book reminded me of a quote from "wild words from wild women"

I learned the syndromes that affect marriages and that if any of these toxic syndromes are occurring, the odds of making improvements to your relationship are slim if you try to work at it unassisted between yourselves.

Sadly, I have touches of the "less toxic" kinds of problems in my marriage. In fact my spouse and I had an hour and a half long conversation last night that I initiated to attempt to resolve a long standing issue.

I could seriously use more help in this department...

HOping to win. We need it.
