A Mystery at Wendy's

November 8, 2009

Yesterday my son and I went to Wendy's, and as I approached the cashier, I began to study him. He had what might possibly be some bruising around his right eye. However, it was questionable.

An investigation in my mind was now underway. I needed to confirm to myself whether that was indeed bruising or perhaps a man who enjoyed a bit of makeup, which is perfectly ok with me.

I could barely place my order because I needed to stare. I looked him over from stem to stern, trying to figure out just what kind of game he was playing.

And then I spotted another odd quirk. The outsides of his lashes were long and curled. Possibly even coated with an enhancement of sorts.

Was it mascara? Or wasn't it? I simply could not tell.

A trickier Wendy's cashier I have never seen.

Photobucket

So my son and I collected our order, proceeded into the dining room and commenced eating, as we puzzled together over this most unusual situation.

And then we heard it. A snippet of employee conversation.

The young lad had been in a fight... because he was wearing makeup.

Mystery solved.

(Note: I'm not passing judgment on him in the least. I could care less if guys wear makeup. I just simply needed to solve the mystery. But, if you are a guy and you do want to wear makeup, do it deliciously like Captain Jack Sparrow, would ya? Yum.)

(PS. He won the fight!)

Oh I really don't like to be judgmental; you know me.
But..
What a little femme fatale.
Still, he has a right to his own choice of makeup.

That's kind of sad. I hate to think of young people getting beaten up because they are different.

Tammy Howard said...

I've already expressed my feelings about guyliner (I love it). Sad that this got him beat up. Really sad.

Brian Miller said...

glad he at least knew who he was...and was willing to take a puch for it...

LOL... Right on both counts - aren't you a super sleuth!

(And yes Jack Sparrow is indeed delicious. Was there a little guyliner going on in Secret Window as well?)

Ahhhhh! Captain Jack Sparrow, delicious!!

Boy George? Not so much.

You are the mystery solving machine. Good call.
Yes, Jack Sparrow is yummy. :)

I agree, Captain Jack is yum. I'm glad this guy stood up for himself and won!

Alice in Wonderland said...

Love Captain Jack, and I have no problems with manscara or guyliner!

Antoinette said...

Good guess!

Too bad the guy got beat up just for being himself. :(

Cairo Typ0 said...

Men who wear makeup make me feel bad because they spend more time getting pretty than i do. :p LOL

Erin M. said...

I am LOL re: "manscara!" Love that!

If a man wants to wear makeup it's fine by me. I'm sorry he had to suffer because of it, though.

I'm also sorry because I usually forego mascara. I'm too lazy. And it often smudges. I also like to just roll into bed without having to scrub at my face!

Stacy (the Random Cool Chick) said...

Glad he at least won the fight!

And I agree - Jack Sparrow mode, YUM! ;)

Nancy@ifevolutionworks.com said...

YOu had it on both counts. How funny!

kyooty said...

Looking at that bruising it looks as if he's healing up some with the yellowing around the edges so I would suspect this was a case of Halloween Party (there are still some on the go a week later) +drinking+ stupid people with hate in their brains = bad eye day.

I think a gratuitous picture of Johnny Depp would have been in order. YOu know, just for us to have the full picture. ;0)

I bet he did win - you gotta be tough if you're a guy who wears makeup!! Good sleuthing, Holmes! ;-)

Cecelia---Sis---Mom said...

I would definitely be one that had to solve the mystery also. It is great to see people that will not change to meet "standards" and they are willing to take up for what they want to do, who they want to be, etc....

I've mentioned I'm growing a pony tail for the first time in my life..One group of people like it better, older people hate it, most people don't really care one way of the other.. Made me look at things differently, and that alone has made it worthwhile..

It makes me sick that he got beaten up for wearing make-up but I so laughed over the fact that you found all the clues. Plus how great is it that you found out what really happened.

I wonder what the other guy looks like?

I woulda guessed he stabbed himself in the eye while applying eyeliner.
Poor kid.

That's so sad he got beat up. Mean people suck is what I say. I think that it's great that he can express his individuality. He's much braver then most of us.

Aw at least he won the fight! I say as long as they can rock it, go for it. I worked with a guy that liked wearing Victoria's Secret "Love Spell" ... so anytime I worked a shift with him he would ask to borrow my "spray". :D Loved it.

It's becoming more popular with the boys.

what do you want to bet the person who picked on him doesn't have a job in fast food? And is afraid of being himself? I don't know this kid, but darn it - I'm cheering for him. PS - Love guyliner, but only on Halloween, rockstars and boys who aren't in my charge :)

A few years back, I had a bruising young lad in my English class. Way over 6 feet tall, I'm sure tipping the scales at well over 200 lbs. Lovely blonde hair, icy blue eyes. Mascara. And eyeshadow. No one messed with him, though. I think he would have won any altercation...

It makes me sad that he couldnt wear make up without getting into a fight. but it makes me happy that he was able to kick some tush! which I am sure suprised the attackers!

Interesting tale, thank you. I feel bad for the boy. We should be able to do what we want within reason. (I mean I want people to wear clothes when they walk around the mall) No one is going to beat me up because of make-up. He was just expressing himself. :(

i'm glad the lad with the makeup won the fight! i think more and more guys are wearing it, i don't know why- it is such a pain to apply and look decent!

Well, if he's gonna wear make-up, could he learn how to apply it tastefully?? I expect the same from my daughter.

Frugal Vicki said...

At least you have tact. I would have looked at him and said "so what happened to your eye?" and then felt like a piece of crap if it was just make-up. Then again, I might just say, oh, here, let me get you a tissue, it looks like it smeared. heee hee.

That's really sad. To each his own. This is 2009 - he can do what he wants without worrying about being beaten up.

singedwingangel said...

See iw oulda been the same way. Curiosity killed the cat my memaw would say well MEOWWW lol... Jack Sparrow is good but I must admit the latest in my entries of guys who look HOT in makeup would have to be Adam Lambert. But on the same token there is something wrong about a sexy as all get out man who makes and equally drop dead gorgeous woman..Unfair at the very least. Found ya from Diary of a mad bathroom and hopped on by.. have a great day

Teens are some of the most rigid conformist groups around. It is what makes those years hell for most kids - the need and demand to fit in and not make waves with conflicting "be yourself" drive.

Good for the young man for being himself!

As for Capn. Jack - OMG, he is to DYE FOR!!!
