Teenage years, reckless dreams
Empty of worries, full of bravado
Straining against confinement
A spirit that won’t be denied.
Twisting, turning in swirls of blackness
An unconscious awareness of doom
The auto on its side, upright in the snow
The metal encases me preventing escape.
Electricity crackles with loosened lines
Entrapment saves my life
A chance of escape would mean imminent death
A blessing for the unworthy.
Red-rimmed eyes, devoid of purpose
Roiling clouds in my mind
A troubled awakening to who I am
And a chance to become extraordinary.
(When I came back to blogging this summer, I left all of my old writings behind and started over. I found this poem I wrote last November about my first car accident, and thought I would share.)
