Thanksgiving Meal for Eight at Walmart (and Giveaway)

November 22, 2009

Photobucket

Don't we all just love Thanksgiving? It's the one day where we know in advance we're going to eat like it's our last day on earth. And we're cool with that.

But it's expensive....mannity man man, it can be expensive.

But wait. I just heard of a little deal-io that Walmart is offering and it's such a good deal that I said heck yeah, I'll tell my readers about it.

Walmart is offering a Thanksgiving Meal for Eight for as low as $20. I.Kid.You.Not.

The Thanksgiving meal includes:

Photobucket

* 12-pound grade-A turkey
* 3 cans of Green Giant veggies
* 3 boxes of Stove Top stuffing mix
* 5-pound bag of red potatoes
* 2 cans of Ocean Spray cranberry sauce
* Sara Lee dinner rolls
* Pumpkin roll cake for dessert

For me, they sealed the deal with that pumpkin roll. The rest is just a bonus.

And for those of you with less than a clue about how to use these ingredients, the website also has some wonderful holiday recipes by Food Network star Melissa d'Arabian.

My hubby and I always buy turkeys when they go on sale either right before or after Thanksgiving. We do Christmas with my family at Thanksgiving, so we can do Thanksgiving with my husband's parents anytime (he's an only child). NEVER pay full price for turkey. They will easily keep in a deep freeze for a year.

I tried to watch for good coupons that I will need for Thanksgiving.

Brandy said...

My new holiday budgeting tip is to find coupons .. I am starting to use coupons more and more. You can often find items really cheap if you buy store brand and use coupons, but for budgeting be sure to look at your income, expenses and ONLY spend the allotted amount, create a list if you need to based on sales fliers from the stores you go to . I love Walmart!!

My best budgeting tip is for the holidays and beyond - here it is: be honest! Just tell your friends you'd rather replace the gift exchange with a pot luck lunch and see if they're OK with that. Focus on presents for the children and be creative with the adults. Try it - you're going to save money and aggravation.

I look for coupons on the internet and in my Sunday papers before Thanksgiving and use as many as I can. You'd be surprised at how much you can save. Also, I make a list and stick to it...that is a big savings right there. :o)

NL6369 said...

Before going to the grocery have a list of what items will be purchased and what spending limits will be set, Stick to is, no extras. Find coupons for as many items as you can on your list and check sales see what it on your list or what is on sale that can be substituted with what's there.

My side of the family has never really been a big fan of turkey... unlike my husband's family. We usually have Thanksgiving dinner at his mom's around 1:00, then we go to my mom's around 4:00. Well, since we'd already eaten a huge meal earlier (as has my brother and his family) by the time we all gather at my mom's for dinner... no one is really all that hungry. So last year, my mom decided to do away with the big Thanksgiving meal... since most of us had already eaten turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, etc. She decided to just do lots of finger foods... cheese & crackers, fruit, veggie tray, that sort of thing. Instead of spending money on food that no one was hungry for! We're doing it again this year.

I have found that if I save my change during the year holidays become less daunting(I use the change as Christmas Savings). In addition this year I put away all my gift cards I earned plus I added a $10 gift card every 2 weeks when hubby got paid(something I easily saved in coupons at the store). It has made struggling with the cost of the holidays for 4 kids(three of them teens) alot simpler.
