Shave Me Like a Man

December 14, 2009

I've been performing an unofficial experiment for the last few years. It started out of pure laziness because my husband leaves his razor in the shower. So I started shaving with it, cuz it beat getting out and going to get mine.

And by the way, I don't leave mine in there because I don't want him using it. Double standard? Why yes, serve me up some of that, please.

Well, it got to the point where he wasn't changing his razors frequently enough, so I started buying the pretty lady kind. And they suck.

You see, they do a delicate lady job of it, all careful, gentle and concerned. What's with that BS?

I need the big guns. I need machinery. I need horsepower. I grow it like a man, you know.

So, I'm convinced. No matter what they say...there's a difference between the male and female versions of the exact same disposable razor.

And my legs need a man.

I am off for a full wax, and pedi today...I cannot stand to shave anymore...if I do and hubby sees me, he jokes and "shower and shave, that will be $.50 please"...

I totally agree with you!

You know, sometimes I think you must be secretly following me around because the timing of your wise observations is uncanny!

Off to go and steal my husband's Gillette blue razor!

Best wishes, Natasha.

I only use an electric razor and I keep it locked up. You've just illustrated exactly why I do that...

I rarely shave my legs past September. Christmas is coming. . . maybe then, as a gift to my husband.

JennyMac said...

hahaha....I would never trade my razor, handheld or electric, for my Hubs..although, I did use his shave lotion from Art of Shaving..its fantastic.

My name is PJ. said...

Of course there's a difference! I'm a Gillett Mach 3 gal, myself!

You crack me up every morning!

Lee the Hot Flash Queen said...

I never thought about it...hmmmmm....well, since I only shave once a quarter, I get out the trimmer first, then the mower, so I don't need a razor, per se.

Dual Mom said...

I say wax them, especially in winter.

And Secretia's comment, I have tears in my eyes I laughed so hard. You have the greatest commentors.

honeypiehorse said...

I have fairly run of the mill leg hair so any old razer will do.

Caro said...

I cant shave every day my legs burn too much, I cant wax either because it gives ingrown hair all over so saving up money for laser. Got it for the arm pits and the bikini line best money ever spent.

adrienzgirl said...

My skin is sensitive. I have to lather up with hypoallergenic crap and use lady razors. I hate shaving, but the alternative is worse. Ick!

Melissa said...

I use the Mach 3 too! I have for years...

You shave in the winter?

You're my hero.

There's a HUGE difference! Women's razors suck, plain and simple.

Mrs4444 said...

I totally agree! What's up with that?!

And I'm with Stacy; my legs haven't seen a razor in a week or two :)

Midday Escapades said...

This is very interesting. I've never used a male shaver before. My hubby uses an electric shaver and he once bought me an electric female shaver, but I didn't like it. So, I'm still using the female ones. Too scared to wax.

haha. Nice way to wrap it up!

My husband hates for me to use his razor, therefore he writes my initials on mine! (Now why he doesn't just write his on his, I just don't know.) :)

Shell said...

He didn't notice? I can hear the screams from the other side of the house when I use Hubs' razor. But, I LIKE his razor.

Jenny said...

I suspect though if you bought a razor like his it wouldn't shave as good, though.

NoReturnMom said...

Too funny! I've never tried using a men's razor, but will have to give it a shot. Thanks for the tip!

Debbie said...

My husband freaks out if he even suspects I have been near his razor. You'd think my legs grew barbed wire or something. But yes, I think some of those female razors have gotten a bit too "cushy" to get the job done.

They outta make a 2-pack!

Oh I'm lucky, I shave my legs about once every couple of months, for some reason it just doesn't grow on my legs! I could tweeze it there are so few if I wanted to bother. So for me, the lady's shavers more than do the trick.

Kathie @ my net finds said...

I agree! I got lucky and got my husband's awesome razor after he bought a bunch of refills and then decided he didn't like it. It's awesome and way better than any lousy women's razor that I've tried before. And it's silver, not pink or lavendar or mint green which for some reason all women's razors are...

Christina said...

YES to men's razors, but an even bigger yes to men's heated shaving cream... Every time I go home to visit my family, I sneak a use of my dad's shaving cream heater. Makes doing my legs (almost) fun!

Need a man...well of course.

Oh razors.. I guess I am lucky and not too hairy, the girly ones are fine.

Nice laugh with my coffee

Brandy said...

My hubs doesn't leave his razor in the shower. Now I know why. Hmph.

Kara @ His, Hers and Ours said...

I swear by a man's razor. My bristle pad legs can't do a lady razor. Good for you!

Ace said...

Amen!
And I so want to try that "As seen on TV" pad thing that you just rub the hair away. Sounds like much less work.

Kimi@SoManyKids... said...

Ditto that!! But I always, and I very literally mean ALWAYS, cut myself with my man razor.

PropellerHeadMom said...

I am afraid to use a man razor. I am sure I will end up bleeding all over the place. Although the lady razors really do not do a good job! I need something in-between.

Traci said...

You are so funny! I have stolen my husband's, as well. Maybe we should start an anonymous group so we can all come out of the shadows (or showers).
:-)

tinahead81 said...

i've been using hubby's razor for years now!! every time i switch back to a women's version...i throw it away and steal his again!!

Michele said...

We buy the value pack of razors at Costco and all of us use them. Thank heavens JR won't use the ones I leave in the shower because they are too dull for him. Or he thinks they are. HA!

Too Many Hats said...

I have to stop leaving mine in the shower - now I know what's happening to it.

Daffy said...

"I grow it like a man"

I TOTALLY needed that guffaw this morning. Thank you so much! I may have to sneak a few of hubs razors for a try. I think I'm about to the 'sings like a cricket' point when I climb into bed. But hey, what's winter without a little fur?

Buckeroomama said...

LOL!! I gotta admit that it's easier to reach for my husband's razor than to scramble around for mine...

singedwingangel said...

Ok some women, like me and my sister grow leg hair so stiff it stops epilators ( yeah my sister went there, I learned from her painful mistake). I agree men's shave way better and I think the reason is because they are designed to grab and cut coarse facial hair as a rule, and a face with all the bumps and curves. For shaving lotion go for your conditioner foryour hair or invest in Coochy cream. both work wonders and make a ton of difference when shaving AND they leave your skin sooo smooth..

Brian Miller said...

i really dont even know where to begin with this one...you had me at the title..lol.

when my wife takes my razors, they become hers...i dont want them back.

Nancy@ifevolutionworks.com said...

There's a huge difference! I've noticed that too! The female versions never last very long, while the men's version seems to give a MUCH better shave.

I use my husband's too :)

Carolyn G said...

Luckily, I can still use the girly kind. Whew! But during the winter I may or may not shave, usually not.

My favorite razor is a mans too, not my husbands - he would kill me - but a mans.

I'm not real hairy, but I'm about to fall for those weak, girly ones ;)

Cathy said...

:) You crack me up! My husband uses an electric razor, so we definitely don't want to use that one in the shower!

AudreyO said...

I use an electric one. When I use mans or a woman's I cut myself, so it's electric for me.

ModernMom said...

Ha ha! Hubs uses an electric so I can say I have not tried his!!

a49erfangirl said...

Isn't it something that a mans razor works better. My husband is always using my razors and then he puts them back. GRRR they are dull then.

Diane said...

i use guy razors too. the girly ones just don't cut it - literally. lol

buffalodick said...

I got so sick of my wife using my razor, and my face getting cut because of it- I went to electric 20 years ago!

lol @ Secretia!

I have never even considered using a man's razor. Hubs and I don't even share a bathroom so I would have to buy my own anyway.

LOL, I've used my husbands razor once or twice before. I actually like his better!

Tattoos and Teething Rings said...

I think they're better because they're meant for burly facial hair. I can't use Felix's, he would DIE, but I do buy a men's razor for myself :)

Mary said...

If his razors weren't so expensive, I might do the same...but I am just that cheap that I'll use the same chick razor for up to 3 weeks!

Hm, I'll have to test your theory. Although it being winter, I'm not shaving as often (and glad to see I'm not the only one!). I shave my legs maybe twice a week. Would go longer but it makes me crazy. Does your DH know you use his razor? =)

The Girl Next Door Grows Up said...

I have only ever used a man's razor. However, in my youth, I was a little harsh with the shaving and still have the scars to prove it! I guess I really wanted those legs to be smooth!

MiMi said...

Amen, sista! Give me the big guns, we have a big area to shave, why aren't our razors better?!

Middle Aged Woman said...

I am a big fan of the Bic Soleil razors. Beside being pretty, they do a great job on my legs. I have the man-fuzz, too.

Susan Fobes said...

This is too funny! I, like you, am convinced there is a difference between the shavers for men and women-they seem to last longer and cut better, so yes, I may have borrowed the hubby's razor a time or two...

Thanks for stopping by and comment.

drollgirl said...

bring on the big guns! god i hate shaving. but it is REQUIRED, and the man shaving units seem to do a better job. i also use man shaving cream, as the lady stuff is just too expensive.

One of my biggest pet peeves is the cost of razors. It makes me crazy to spend that kind of money on something like that...but I would go nuts without them!

My legs hate me when I use disposable razors. I have my own b/c it stays in the shower. Hubs shaves at his sink. It kinda skeeves me out to share certain stuff like that, even w/ my hubs...

Alexis AKA MOM said...

LOL you always make me giggle!

Rick started keeping his in his drawer so years I ago I switched to mine with the suction cup in there! But I do notice I have to do it more often. Evil plan to make us buy more!

Pam said...

Lol! I started using my hubby's razor too. He shouldn't have left it in reach if he doesn't want me to use it!

Matty said...

I've never used a ladies razor, so I never gave it a thought.

Jenners said...

I've tried both and I don't really see that much of a difference ... other than the man's razors don't seem to pop out their blades as easily!!! And I grow it like a man too!

Shraddha@theselfloveproject said...

hopefully there is...i am guessing...during my pregnancy i shaved my legs..

Drama queens mum (Kimberly) said...

I never thought of using my hubbies shaver. It's good to know it would prob work better.

We always just buy men's razors--they seem to hold up better for some reason. Isn't that odd??

I have started to buy and use the same one my husband uses. They are so much better than the woman's razors.

I was rolling you are so funny. I don't even grow a lot of hair but I love my hubby's razors. He does not leave them in the shower EVER because he claims they will be dull but that is a lod of crap. Dudes are just all freaky about their blades I guess.

BTW I am so saving for that laser treatment. AWESOME!

Okay missy, what were you doing inside my head? :P It's exactly that way for me...my husband finally gave in and we just share the razor blades. They fit perfectly on his rough-tough "manly" razor and just as perfectly on my pretty purple and white "lady" one, LOL!
