Stop Nickin’ My Name!

Why do people think they can give you a nickname without asking?

Twice this week I’ve replied by email to people I didn’t know. I signed my full name and they answered me back with a nickname.

Let’s say my name was Rebecca, which it isn’t.

I signed my letter…

Best, Rebecca

They answered me back…..

Hi Becky!

What the heck? Who’s Becky? I know I’m not.

What is that?? I never used a nickname in my correspondence. Why are they ascribing one to me?

As if we were friends. As if they had permission.
