It was 9 months of pure hell.
Just google some images and you’ll see the horror.
My son had scabies.
He was complaining that his mosquito bites were really itching, and he seemed to be getting more and more bites. I remember the sores. They were perfectly round in shape, every one of them and they didn’t scab over. Ever.
So we took him to the doctor. And he had scabies.
They’re these microscopic mites that form little red bumps and blisters on the skin, and then they break out and leave these open wounds.

Scabies are the most resistant little buggers you have ever seen. They cause intense, outrageous, unbearable itching mostly at night, when the little creepers are burrowing.
My son had them everywhere – legs, arms, hands, and even his poor little pee pee. Oh, that pee pee was so swollen and sore looking. It broke my heart.
Just like with lice, everything in the house had to be washed, vacuumed, and quarantined, and my son had to be doused in poison. It was a white paste which we applied from the neck down and then washed off in the morning.
And then we waited.
The scabies survived.
Three rounds of poison. Three rounds of survival.
My baby, my poor little baby.
It wasn’t until I went to a new doctor whose treatment was so aggressive that we were finally able to end the nine month long nightmare.
I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy – it was just that bad.
Note: Scabies is highly contagious, and it doesn’t matter in the least how clean or dirty you may be. We are nearly positive that he picked it up at a sleepover when he borrowed a friend’s sleeping bag.
