Herman T’s BBQ Sauce {Review and Giveaway}

My mom served food with no sauces, no seasonings, no flavor, and it wasn’t until I was out on my own that I realized how good food could be.

And I sure do love BBQ sauce! So I was happy to test out Herman T’s BBQ sauce, which is a dry mix, something completely new to me.

Herman T’s sauce originated from his grandfather’s 1950′s recipe and was so popular with friends and family that he began to sell it to the public. It’s gotta be good, right?

I am not one to enjoy slaving over a hot stove, so I was more than happy to see how easy it was to make the sauce.

Whisk together 1/2 cup catsup, 1/2 cup water, and one tablespoon of dry mix in a saucepan. Heat to a boil, and you’ve got yourself some ready-to-eat sauce.

I mixed up the regular sauce and the spicy sauce so as to do a taste comparison.

First I tasted the mild sauce and then I tasted the spicy sauce. Honestly, I really couldn’t tell that much of a difference between the two, maybe just the slightest bit more heat with the spicy.

I thought both of them had a slightly sweet flavor, and the catsup taste was quite noticeable. That’s not a bad thing, but I would have preferred the spice to overtake the catsup flavor. I might experiment next time and add a bit more dry mix than it calls for.

I really liked whipping up a sauce that’s fresh not bottled, and knowing that it contains no chemicals or MSG makes me feel good about eating it and serving it.
