Quick Washer and Dryer Maintenance Tips #WhirlpoolMoms

Front Loading Washer Maintenance

Before I had my Whirlpool Duet Washer and Dryer, I had heard horror stories about how badly front loading washers smelled.

I can see how it would happen. There’s a lot of moisture left inside the rubber lining after using the machine.

However, I decided there was no funk allowed at my house. Not on my watch.

One thing I always do is to leave the washer door open for several hours after I use it in order to dry it out completely.

And the washer audibly and visibly reminds me to clean it each month. If I am in a hurry and ignore the reminder, it will prompt me again the next time I do laundry.  (Nagging isn’t always a bad thing.)

Affresh cleaner

So I pop an Affresh tab into the machine and run the cycle.

My prevention tactics are working, because there’s not even the tiniest bit of foul odor, so I’m gonna keep on keepin’ on. :)

Dryer Maintenance

As for the dryer, that’s even easier to keep clean. The only thing I’m supposed to do is clean the lint screen before every use.

Do I? Pshhhh, I’m far too lazy for that, but I do clean it once each day that I use it.

That’s as good as it’s gonna get.

HINT: Have you ever had lint fall off the screen while it’s in the dryer? That probably means your screen is clogged.

Laundry detergent and fabric softener will build up on it over time, so every 6 months or so, use some hot water and liquid detergent, and scrub the screen with a nylon brush. Make sure to dry the screen well before putting it back in the dryer.

Also, be sure you clean your vent every couple of months! Last time I cleaned mine, there was a bird’s nest in there! What the heck?!

Back to the laundry…I’ve been gone for a week, and I have A LOT to wash!

I wrote this review while participating in a test-drive campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Whirlpool and received a complimentary Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer to facilitate my review.
