To Kill A Mockingbird 25th Anniversary Giveaway (US/CAN)

Happy 50th Anniversary to one of my favorite films of all time, To Kill A Mockingbird!

If you’ve never seen the beloved and critically acclaimed film, you absolutely must watch it! It’s a powerful and poignant adaptation of Harper Lee’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, and it’s a masterpiece.

To Kill A Mockingbird

Atticus Finch was a single father in the film, so to celebrate the release of To Kill A Mockingbird on Blu-ray on January 31, I’m highlighting a few famous and memorable single fathers from the movies.

TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD (1962)

Atticus-Finch

Gregory Peck plays Atticus Finch, a lawyer and the single father to young Scout (Mary Badham) and Jem (Phillip Alford). He takes on the defense case of a wrongfully accused black man, and in doing so he teaches his children about racism in their small town.

FINDING NEMO (2003)

Marlin-Finding-Nemo
After a barracuda ate his wife, Marlin is left alone to care for Nemo, and when Nemo is captured by a scuba diver, Marlin goes on a crazy adventure to find him. Along the way, he makes lots of friends and learns that he can still be a good, caring father without being overly protective.

SLEEPLESS IN SEATTLE (1993)

Sleepless-in-Seattle-Sam
After losing his wife to cancer, Sam (Tom Hanks) and his son, Jonah move to Seattle. Jonah calls into a talk radio show about his dad, and Sam is convinced to go on air and share his feelings about missing his wife.  Annie (Meg Ryan) a listener in Baltimore, writes to Sam in the hopes of meeting in New York.

THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS (2006)

Chris-Gardner-Pursuit-of-Happyness-Will-Smith
Will Smith stars as Chris Gardner, and when his wife leaves him following a bad investment, he and his son (played by real life son, Jaden Smith) are left homeless. He struggles to make ends meet, but eventually he finds an internship in San Francisco’s Financial District which changes their lives for the better.

MRS. DOUBTFIRE (1993)

Daniel-Mrs-Doubtfire
When Daniel’s (Robin Williams) wife Miranda (Sally Field) divorces him, his visitation with the children is limited to once a week. In order to see them more,  Daniel poses as a British nanny, and his ex-wife hires him to watch the kids. When the ruse is discovered, the consequences nearly crush him, but in the end it all works out.

I’ve seen every one of these movies, and each of them is well worth viewing! And look for the 50th Anniversary edition of To Kill a Mockingbird in stores January 31st!
