Have you ever tried a turkey burger? What did ya think? I’m asking because I’ve never tried one, and truthfully I’ve never even been tempted.
Until now.
The lure of the new Jennie-O Jalapeño Jack Turkey Burgers was too much for me. Let me at ‘em! They’re packaged in individual pouches, and each burger can be cooked right from the frozen state – no thawing required!
But I had a craving for one of my favorite comfort foods, meatloaf, and I knew if I added some Wholly Salsa to it, I’d have myself a kickin’ dinner.
I used the Roasted Tomato flavor, mmmmmmm.
I was really happy with how this turned out. The texture was just perfect, and the flavors and little kick of Southwest heat made it absolutely delicious.
Kickin’ Southwest-Style Turkey Meatloaf
Ingredients
1 1/2 – 2 lbs ground turkey (I used 1 box of 6 Jennie-O Jalapeño Jack Turkey Burgers, thawed)
1/4 cup Wholly Salsa Roasted Tomato
1/4 cup chopped onion
1 cup seasoned dry bread crumbs
1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
1/2 tsp chili powder
1 T Worcestershire sauce
1 egg
1/4 tsp pepperDirections
1. Combine ingredients thoroughly, then shape into a lightly greased loaf pan. You can turn it out onto a baking sheet to bake, or if you’re lazy like me, you can just bake it right in a loaf pan or any other dish you’d like.2. Bake at 350 degrees for about 1 1/2 hours. Remove from oven and spread a layer of the salsa over the top. Add a few slices of pepper-jack cheese, if you’d like, and then bake for another 5-10 minutes to melt.
Look for the Jennie-O Jalapeño Jack Turkey Burgers at Walmart now, and you’ll find them in other stores at the end of March!
