I’ve been to Missouri once but I was cheated on that trip. I was in St. Louis, and I didn’t even get to see the Gateway Arch! If that’s not bad enough, my hotel was next to the St. Louis Zoo, and I didn’t even have a chance to stroll over there either!
So when I go back, and I’m totally taking my daughter with me, we’re headed straight for St. Louis on the first day and aside from the arch and the zoo, we’ll visit the CityGarden, the Art Museum and take in a Cardinals game.
Ain’t gonna lie…there’ll be some BBQ in there too.
Is that too ambitious? Too bad. Missouri has lots to see, and my daughter and I both carry the slightly obsessive gene about jam-packing our travel itineraries.
So…. after the obvious day one St. Louis attractions, we’d start doing all the crazy stuff I had no idea you could do in Missouri. For instance, scuba diving? What, what? In Missouri?
It’s true. You can go diving at Bonne Terre Mine!
I also feel like we need to stop in Laura Ingall’s childhood home and pay homage to the Little House on the Prairie. Ma, Pa, Laura…they call to me. Mary…not so much.
Oh my, what else, what else?
I know…a float trip!!!! I’ve seen those big rubber rafts floating down rivers loading with laughers and screamers. It looks so fun, and the connection to nature can’t be beat.
I thought Missouri was the “Show Me” state and it is, but apparently it’s also the Cave state and I think exploring caves is just about the coolest thing ever. Spelunking, here we come!
Oh, and the wine… we love to sip and taste our wine. My daughter is actually quite knowleadgeable about it, so she’d really enjoy choosing one or several wineries to visit. (There are over 100 in the state, so I’m leaving that planning to her.)
We have to go to Branson too. I don’t even like country music, but it’s the Live Dinner Show Capital of the World, so surely I’d find at least a few that would make for a toe tapping good time. When I’m on vacation, I adore those hokey, entertaining shows.
And the shopping…well naturally we’d finish with a MASSIVE outlet run. Whew! What a vacation!
Have you ever been to Missouri? What do you think are the can’t miss Missouri attractions?
